It is better to go to college than university. All people end up wanting to further their careers at one point or another by going to a post-secondary school, but most choose the college route. This is due to it has many more hands on learning activities, by sending you to placement, more in class labs and not as many lectures. Right now, if a student were to be put into the workplace they would have no idea what to do but by going to college and getting the extra hands on it helps you better prepare yourself for what is to come.

On the other hand, college is also a lot cheaper than university. If you were to go to university for just one year it would cost around $25,000 and for one year of college it is about $10,000 according to the website collegedata. That is double the amount if you went to university instead of college.

Right now, most students who go to university first actually backtrack and take a college course after. They find it helps them find a job faster by being in placements. It also is not as knowledge based it is more real life skills which university students tend to feel they lack.

Some adolescents find it is easier to make friends in college than in a university due to the workload is not as heavy and there are not as many lectures. You would have more time to go out and spend quality time with friends.

As well as, if you were to do college first there is always a way you could bridge almost any program. In high school they used to say how if you took college courses that is where you had to go, but you can actually do both in the end if you really wanted.

All in all, more students find it resourceful to go to college, and get the more hands on learning than university, and they also enjoy their time more in college.

Dogs are better animals than cats. This is because you can do more activities, buy hypoallergenic ones, its proven it releases endorphins while petting a dog and they are used as therapy pets. To start off, by doing more activities they can be taken for walks, play catch, and go for jogs with you. Personally I have never seen a cat play catch and the rare one will go for a walk but you don’t get that far.

Next, we will move onto how you can buy hypoallergenic ones. As we all know animals, dogs and cats tend to shed a lot and people are sometimes allergic to the hair. For dogs there is an option to buy hypoallergenic ones which have fur that does not shed. For example, poodles are hypoallergenic dogs.

It is a proven fact that petting dogs releases endorphins known as our “feel good” hormones. According to a new research done by the University of Missouri-Columbia says petting dogs makes a person feel better. As well as, helps deal with depression and anxiety. In most schools dogs are brought in as therapeutic tools to help students feel better around exam time.

When you have a pet dog they are very lovable and cuddly, they tend to want to be around you a lot. Cats are not as friendly as dogs, they will bite, scratch and would prefer to not be touched. Dogs will sit on your lap, wait for you to pet them, lick you, and play games with you. Overall, any sane person would choose dogs as a better animal over cats.

Throughout writing and editing each copy of my profile I noticed a few things about it. You could clearly tell that it was coming from my perspective while seeing the place and asking my sister all the questions, I was observing what she was doing. It was worded to sound more like an authentic voice.

The next thing I noticed was it transitioned from place to place well. I didn’t just switch from one to another I made it feel like we were walking together. As well as, it was in chronological order from what I did or saw.

I tried to include as many senses as possible but it was very hard to try to add tasting in, and smelling because I don’t quite know how to explain the old smell properly. Mainly I just described everything I saw and heard. This would definitely be an area I have to improve on.

I do believe I had a semi community relevance due to nurses affect everyone’s lives, they have seen one from time to time. Also, as people or family members get older you may want to look into caregivers and geriatric nurses like my sister would be someone who would look after you and your health as you age.

Personally while I was adding in my citations and resources I didn’t really know what to put. For my primary source it was obvious, because I could just use something my sister said during the interview which was several jokes. For the secondary it took me a little while due to I didn’t know what could be considered a secondary source so I used a saying off of the website. I’m not sure if I cited them right due to the website when I searched in easybib it would not even show up, but I tried my best.

While writing and rewriting “This I believe”, I had a few strengths, but many challenges. One strength I noticed while writing the drafts was once I had the idea I was able to keep having a flow of ideas coming out.

For me to be able to do so I had to make a little cloud web. I started with one idea but I didn’t fully believe in the idea, which ended in me scraping it and picking a new one. When I picked the actual main idea I was able to make back up points to go with it. If I hit about 15-20 points I know I am good to start writing and put it all together. So personally I find my greatest strength in writing is to be able to brainstorm all the information before. Another strength I have is making a flow to my writing. If it’s either chronological order, or just goes well together.

One writing challenge that I want to work on while doing my profile is being more personal with my writing. For example writing feedback I got back from my partner, Natalie, was to “dig deeper into my personal story and why it is important to me”. I was able to improve this writing struggle by using more little details and pinpointing an exact story, not several in ones, for why I actually believed it.

Strategies I can use to help with being more personal and connected to my writing could be explaining it in more detail. As well as, being able to have points and stories to back it up to put more of a personal connection to it. I could explain myself more, use little details, and quotes. Overall I use my strengths to my advantage and am constantly working on my struggles throughout my writing pieces.

For something to be a descriptive paragraph you want to be able to imagine what you are reading. You will notice while reading through ‘The Last Stop’ by Brian Cable, he describes the building into small details that help you understand more.

Around the third last paragraph as they move into the embalming room, he starts to describe the layout of the room, where everything is, how it looks and what is on top of what. For example the little details of the tools or the cleaners.

He explains it as “Tim let me see the preparation, or embalming, room, a white-walled chamber about the size of an operating room. Against the wall was a large sink with elbow taps and a draining board. In the center of the room stood a table with equipment for preparing the arterial embalming fluids, which consists primarily of formaldehyde, a preservative, and phenol, a disinfectant. This mixture sanitizes and also gives better color to the skin. Facial features can then be “set” to achieve a restful expression. Missing eyes, ears, and even noses can be replaced.” (Cable, 2002).

This descriptive passage helps create a strong profile, because of the specific details. As you can tell he specifically names off the embalming fluids that are sitting on the table. He then further continues on about what can be done in that room.

Not only in that paragraph does he observe little details around him then explain about them but he continues to do so throughout the entire profile. Little details of the room, the materials in the room, or just the building itself, can help create a strong meaningful profile.

Considering the advice provided in the blog “How to interview like a journalist (no matter what your job is)”, I now have a more open mindset about writing a profile than I did before. Jory Mackay explains ways to ask interview questions and the observation of body language or facial expressions. These observations are important when researching how to write a profile because they can change the perspective of what you want to portray of the place.

When observing and writing about what you see it helps someone build a picture in their head of what you see. A part that really stood out to me in the blog that I found the most important was “So much of what someone is telling you goes beyond the words themselves and being blissfully unaware of those signs can ruin all the hard work you’ve already put in” (Mackay, 2015). This summarizes that watching if they smile or watching their eyes, could have a bigger meaning behind it than the answer itself.

Think of it this way, if someone were to ask me “How are you doing today?” I almost always answer with “not too bad”, but the part they may not notice is am I smiling or our my arms hidden away in pockets and my eyes not able to make eye contact with the person. If the person asking isn’t looking for the little things how are they going to know if I actually mean what I’m saying or if it’s hiding a further meaning. Those little features of someone can have more of a impact to an answer than the actually response.

Just remember next time you are asking interview questions or just questions in general to dig deeper for the further meaning of the response. Pay extra attention to the little details.

Listen up ladies and gentlemen, or any other specimen. Listen closely to the words in my story, all of my gory and glory:

Not everyone is going to like you, but you still need to push through.

You will get told you are too short or too tall, sometimes you may stumble and fall.

Possibly that you’re a twig or fat, or even too busty or flat.

Not everyone is going to like you, you may even fall through.

I’m not saying it won’t be hard and tough, just remember you are enough.

This could happen in a high school, where people think they’re really cool.

Things are taken way too far, while sometimes leaving a scar.

So think about my words next time you say something, it could possibly sting.

A lot of times when you read articles sometimes if they are explained well enough in the text you can picture it perfectly in your head. You may even sometimes be able to imagine every single detail being explained and follow along as if it were a movie.

While reading the profile written by, Brian Cable about the Goodbody Mortuary, I was able to picture a walk through of the building. The detail he described the rooms in helped me know what pieces to add to the picture. As well as, how he explained what would happen and what the job consisted of built upon the building in my head as if I was able to be walking through this building myself.

I definitely agree that this profile was a well written description of the Goodbody Mortuary. For example he described the front of the building like “a church-tall, with gothic arches and stained glass- and somewhat like an apartment complex- low, with many windows stamped out with of red brick” (Cable, 1), this description of the outside makes an image in your head right from the start.

Then it continues on further throughout the profile of a walk through room by room, describing the main lobby, reception room, visitation rooms, display room, and the preparation room. The part that makes this profile strong is how he puts it into a different way of thinking. Also, how he was able to incorporate humor but seriousness where needed kind of helped make the profile stronger.

I never would have been able to describe a funeral home the way Cable did. I tend to think of funeral homes as a sad place to be. The way he described this funeral home put it into a different perspective for me. As if they aren’t as bad as people think and they are there for ones comfort.

On day 46, You were still throwing sticks.

Telling me you did it for the money, While we still called each other honey.

We’re just perfect models, Of all emotions filled in bottles.

You would sell one ounce, Then later come to me and pounce.

They say your love is like a drug, But all you did was take vodka and chug, With a hug as well as a shrug.

I kept my secrets and my promises, Now I’m left with all the remnants.

Because you couldn’t stop, You would just swap.

From a needle, to a snort, to a puff, Even I noticed you got a little rough.

Kept coming back to me , With a bag and a plea.

I was too scared to look you in the eyes, Even I loved you was said in cries.

Later on you stopped coming by, All I could do was let out a little sigh.

I didn’t miss the abuse, I missed the use.

I was too high strung, Really Really Fucking Young.

All I remembered was I loved you, You started hanging around a new crew.

But, when you I saw you fall, I felt extremely small.

Not remembering who I was, So I just needed a pause.

A break or relief of it all, I didn’t want to be your little doll.

I just wanted to feel something again, I sliced and attempted to drain.

All the sorrow and betrayal I’ve been through, Time just flew.

While I was laying there, I wondered who would miss me or just thought it was fair.

At this point my brain turned around, Like my system had been reground.

I finally felt close to being happy, And I came back snappy.

Finally feeling like my own human being.

The story of becoming yourself

Whenever you search anything up online what is the very first site that pops up on the web? For the most part it is almost always Wikipedia. Wikipedia likes to apparently have all the facts, and know every little detail about pretty well everything.

This site is known as not having reliable information and can’t be trusted. So many teachers prohibit their students from even using it as a source of facts, because people can edit the text as they please. You wouldn’t even know if the information you’re writing down is actually right for your report, essay, or whatever you are writing.

Personally, I agree with all those teachers who have banned it from being used as a resource. People are able to write the facts so believable that you can’t tell the difference between the truth or a twisted story. You don’t even know what was originally put in the article and what was added later on.

I know from my experiences with Wikipedia, as I was in elementary I used to go on the site just to change around little facts and make it into different stories, that I found funny. I never really clued in that if I could do it anyone else around the world could. I used to actually take their points and write my research reports on them up until about 7th grade.

At one stage or another in your life you have come across some sort of Wikipedia link that has intrigued you into reading about it. Possibly you even read page after page after page of Wikipedia stories that you have found interesting. Just think about all this, and how teachers have even started to prohibit the site from students the next time you plan on doing a research report.
